Do I need HOA "Design Committee" Approval for this 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I want to paint my front door something other than White. I've seen lots of doors painted all sorts of colors in our community. I know for big things I need design committee review approval... but what about something as simple as just painting my front door? Can I just do that? Or do I need to ask permission first? How did YOU do it?

Thanks!

At the last budget meeting, Derek Tarries was asked about the new $50 charge to submit for Design Review Committee approvals ($250 for architectural submittals). He answered that some things just do not need approval if they are of a "minor" nature. (i.e. adding planting beds, etc.) I'm not sure that this is of a minor nature to the HOA but it should be. Paint the door. If they ever notice, and they like you, they'll overlook it or just allow you to submit an application for retro-approval and they'll approve it. If they don't, they'll have a sissy-fit and go bonkers, over nothing meaningful. I vote for "minor" and say, "go for it!" They make so many exceptions that it'll be a waste of their time and effort just to make your life miserable.

I would check with the HOA to make sure. I'm hoping there would be some control, as some people would be inclined to paint their door lime green or some other horrid color.

LOL - I know someone in Daybreak that painted their door lime green . . . and it actually looks really good! It works
