Most South Jordan Schools NOT recycling thanks to a minor City of South Jordan code violation |

    I received an email this morning from a Daybreak Homeowner/Parent and what I was told was very disturbing. Apparently this parent was volunteering at Daybreak Elementary the other morning in her daughter’s classroom. Part of her tasks included removing a homework cover letter from each student's take home folder. At the end of her task she had a stack of 25+ papers. So she asked the teacher if she had a recycling bin in the classroom. The teacher’s response was "No. The school can't recycle anymore. We used to use the blue bins in the DCC parking lot. But Kennecott Land, "The Green Company" thought they were too ugly and had them removed. So now the school doesn't have recycling." So this parent opted to bring the papers home & put them in her recycling bin.
  .    .. .    ...    .    So I talked to all parties about this issue (KL, CCMC, City of South Jordan, & South Jordan School District) and found out that the City of South Jordan (NOT Kennecott Land) had the recycling bins removed from MOST of the Schools in South Jordan because of a minor code violation having to do with the Recycling bins requiring an enclosure, which most of the Schools in South Jordan did not have. The South Jordan School District told the City of South Jordan that they did not have the funding to pay for the required enclosures and asked for a temporary or permanent variance over a few years so funding could be secured to install the required enclosures, a request that was denied.

  The South Jordan School District will be submitting a request next week to the City of South Jordan City Council and Planning Commission and I really hope the City of South Jordan this time grants the South Jordan School District a temporary variance for a few years so the funding can be secured. This would get the recycling bins back at the South Jordan Schools and would prove that the City of South Jordan is willing to work around certain hurdles in order to do what is right.  .     .    ....
