Periodic air smell in Daybreak 5 Years, 12 Months ago Karma: 0
We just moved here recently. We've noticed a smell in the air one or two nights a week. It smells like garbage or bad mulch. I took a tour of the Jordan Landfill and they insist it is not them. The landfill mentioned a prior smell that was caused by their compost system, but that was recently closed down. They told me the smell is coming from a company northward called ET or Environmental Technologies. I found this recent article: http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=15956618 Can this smell get as far south as Daybreak? I called the HOA and they said they hadn't heard anything recently. The HOA said they would check into it and call me back. I haven't heard anything from them yet. I also called Rio Tinto and asked about it. They did call me back and said there was a possibility it was coming from the landfill, or farmland, or a number of other things. The Rio Tinto spokesperson said they checked back on the call logs and I was the only person calling and asking about the smell. Does anyone else have any information on this? Can anything be done about it?

I've never smelled anything. Been here 2.5 years in Founders Park.

I've noticed a foul smell also. I'm looking to change the filters in my home first. Where can I find good discount filters online? I'd be suspicious about the landfill...

I'm pretty sure it's the landfill. I've purchased the compost from the landfill a couple of times and the smell seems the same to me.

I used to live north of the landfill in West Jordan. I would bet money it's the landfill. Before you start complaining, remember the landfill was there before Daybreak...

I started writing a reply, but it got WAY too long with links and pics, so I posted it on my blog here:

In short, is the landfill stinky? It might be, but we only smell it about once every two years, so stop complaining and stop scaring away people who are thinking of moving here!
