For those who are not familiar with the term CSA (Community Supported Agriculture): A CSA is where members of the local community pay a fee at the beginning of the growing season to meet a farm's operating expenses for the upcoming season. In return, these members or "shareholders," receive a portion of the farm's produce each week throughout the growing season.

More info: East Farms http://www.eastfarms.net/join.htm Duration: 18 weeks (June- October) Cost:  $250 for a half –share (1-3 people) and $450 for a full-share (4-6 people). Dates: Each Thursday starting in June, you will receive a box full (or half full depending on what you choose) of locally grown, organic, seasonal veggies.

• Connection to a family farmer- Knowing the farmer who grows the food I eat is a comforting feeling.
• Supporting organic agriculture-The fewer pesticides and herbicides on my food the better. It is a win-win for our environment and for our bodies.
• Fresher food – Veggies are picked the morning of your delivery day which means they will last longer and taste better.
• Good price – For local, fresh, organic produce: $13.88/ week (half-share) and $25/week (full share) is a good buy.
• Supporting agriculture in Utah – Food security is extremely important. Each year more and more of our food comes from outside our country while local farmland is sold off to developers. The best way to keep local Utah farmers in business is to keep farming profitable and CSAs are one way to keep our farmers and farms around
• Reduce carbon footprint by buying locally- No trucking across state lines or across our borders= less impact on our environment.
• Free pumpkin patch- in October, East Farms opens its pumpkin patch to CSA participants. Your kids can have the on the farm experience of picking pumpkins and you can take as home as many as you want.
